Mandolin 1/2: What will I learn?

In these Level 1/2 classes, we will work through 1 to 2 tunes per week, focussing on those which enable the development of playing techniques (including pick techniques, chord shapes in tune playing and how to emphasise rhythms in playing).

We will work towards linking several tunes in sets suitable for playing at sessions.

Donald Macphee

Donald played mandolin with Aberdeen-based Cannach in the 1990/2000s, performing sets of traditional and original music in venues throughout Scotland and beyond in various festivals and in studio sessions for radio and TV. They released ‘The Moons of Glenloy’ (KRL Lochshore) in 1997. Donald has since continued to compose (examples on Time to Dance - Dance to Time | Donald Macphee (bandcamp.com)) and perform occasionally with other musicians, e.g. ‘Nelson’s Mandola’.
